Last month while I was at Seclusion on the Bay, I had the chance to sit down and read an amazing interview with Sally Obermeder – how she beat breast cancer, got her health back on track with the help of green smoothies and lost 10 kilos in the process.
It was such an incredible story, I bought the Super Green Smoothies book and decided I had to give them a go.
I’d been experiencing really low energy (mostly due to lack of sleep with two little ones), I hadn’t been eating as well as I should and I just wanted to feel healthy and re-energised again.
That was 4 weeks ago and I haven’t looked back!
I’ve made a green smoothie (and sometimes two!) every morning for breakfast since.
My hubby and girls love them too.
They sound a bit more complicated than they are. If you have a regular blender at home – you’re good to go.
All you have to do is pick up as little as 4 ingredients on your grocery run.
The smoothies are delicious, you can’t even taste the greens which is why they are so clever.
They are perfect for busy mornings, I pop everything into the blender and within a few minutes I’ve got my portable breakfast ready to go. It comes with me from the kitchen to the laundry to the girls rooms while I’m making the beds, and even in the car if we’re a bit rushed.
I love that I’ve got a great nutritional head start on the day, (I would never normally have 2 cups of spinach for breakfast) and I make better food choices as a result.
I noticed a really big difference in energy levels after just a week, I dropped a kilo and had a much flatter tummy as well as really clear skin.
These past few weeks I’ve felt the best I have in a very long time.
A coupe of people have asked me what my favourite recipe is, so here it is!
Mango Magic from ‘Super Green Smoothies‘
2 cups baby spinach
1 cup frozen mango
1 frozen banana (I’m so happy I can put great use to all the overripe bananas!)
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
Optional: Natural Buzz Superfood Mix and Bee Pollen
Blend and enjoy!!
Note: Sometimes it can take few goes to blend to a smooth consistency
