We had such a lovely family trip to Bali just before Christmas, but getting ready for any holiday with young kids takes A LOT of preparation. I slowly added to our ‘Bali Bag’ of goodies for a few weeks and also made a call out on Instagram for any advice and tips on travelling and packing for Bali and got some fantastic recommendations, so I thought I’d share my own list as all as the fab ideas from my Insta friends and I would LOVE it if you could leave your own tips too!
For the plane trip I packed my usual bag of tricks (colouring in books, stickers, crayons etc) plus Ava’s iPad loaded with new educational games and apps.
Bathers / Rashies – my girls spent most of the time in their bathers, so a couple of pairs on rotation works best
Hats – the ones with toggles are best for younger kids as they stay on, we get ours from Adorable Affordable
Kids Sunscreen (I’m always trying different ones. Which one is your fave?)
Kids mosquito repellant – I’ve heard Moo Goo and Vanilla Mozi are good
Mozzi Gear Mosquito Repeller – we pop this on the pram and then next to the girls bed / cot at night and it works really well
Mosquito net for the pram / cot
Kids floaties / pool toys – I found a fantastic Little Mermaid 3 pack with a ball, ring and mini board and for just $10 from Big W
Lavender oil is GENIUS as it acts as a natural mossie / insect repellant, an antiseptic for scratches, cuts and bites, great for headaches and a few drops in the bath or on your pillow can help you sleep. It also masks any unpleasant odours you might have in your room
Hydralyte – the jelly / icy poles are great
Panadol and / or Nurofen
Toothbrushes and toothpaste – Jack and Jill from Eco Shop are the best
Nappies – lots of them!
Swim nappies, again as many as you can – surprisingly a lot of beach / pool destinations don’t have them, or if they do – they cost a small fortune!
Raffertys Garden Fruit Pouches – Chloe stopped eating these 6 months ago but one of my lovely Insta friends recommended these and my girls have loved them so far, they are ideal for our early morning (5am!) wake ups when nowhere is open for breakfast until 7am
Snacks – my girls are champion eaters, so I have Teddy Bear biscuits, Potato Sticks, sultanas and bananas
Wipes – again, lots of them!
Light weight stroller, we have a Steelcraft Holiday stroller which we love
Pram fan – I couldn’t find one of these, but really wish I had as any more than 5 minutes in the sun out of the pool is HOT HOT HOT
Light weight muslin wraps – can be used to cover little legs in the pram, pour some water over to soothe hot little heads and bodies or use to drape over the side of the cot if your child naps during the day
Light weight blankets – I packed my girls a blanket each for the plane trip and hotel, it’s comforting for them if they have something from home
We used Bali Res Centre for our transfers to and from the airport which was fantastic. Someone was waiting for us with an air conditioned mini van at the airport and at our hotel on departure and we were able to request a car seat for Chloe. Big tick!
We also used Travel Insurance Direct which was super easy and gave me peace of mind should anything happen while we were over there.
I’d love to hear what your must pack items and tips are for travelling with little ones!
