Good Morning Amy,
I follow your blog and on Instagram and have been showing my friends lately how amazing you are looking.
I am still living at home and have no children but still find excuses not to exercise and eat healthy!
How do you stay motivated and what kind of weekly routine do you stick too?
I recently received this email from a lovely reader and I hear you Kelly, I’ve found plenty of excuses not to eat well and not exercise over the years.
Over the last four years I’ve been pregnant twice, put on 20 kilos each time and lost 20 kilos plus a little more both times. It’s been a roller coaster! I’m now closer than ever to feeling my best, but it certainly hasn’t been an easy journey.

“The WHY gets me back on track the next day – or after a weekend away. Trust me, there have been plenty of those of late to test my theory!
Your WHY might be completely different. And that’s very ok.
The important thing is to work out what it is and make health your priority – and put your WHY in place as the motivator.”
My why? I want to be the lightest, strongest, fittest, most energetic and confident version of myself for me and my family, so I can get on with each day feeling my very best.
Just Do It – Find YOUR Kind Of Exercise
For years I made exercise so much harder than it actually is. I would think to myself ‘I really must sign up for a boot camp or join the gym’ when the reality is you can seek out lots of different ways to be active. A walk and talk in your lunch break with a friend. A 45 min Pilates or yoga class. A 15 minute workout in your lounge room. Consistency is the key. It’s better to do a little something each and every day than one big workout which leaves you feeling sore and exhausted and puts you off exercising for another week.
My weekly routine is two Pilates sessions wherever I can. I book it in and make it happen. It’s my type of exercise and I LOVE it! I always leave my sessions feeling stronger, toned and really motivated. I first started doing clinical Pilates for reoccurring lower back issues and it’s helped strengthen my core so much so that I rarely have back pain anymore. I also recently started Power Pilates which is AMAZING! The tunes get cranked right up and off we go! Best fun.
I also pop both my girls into our double pram (the Winnebago) and we go for a walk as often as we can, failing that I’ll do a 15 minute session in my kitchen or in the living room. This Tracey Anderson 15 minute workout for Goop readers is one of my favourites.
I can highly recommend Feel Fitness if you live in Perth, Louise is the most inspiring, beautiful person (I call her Little Miss Sunshine) – she’ll get you into shape in no time!
Fun and Fabulous Active Wear
I was having a chat with my friend Emma who owns 24/7 Lifestyle Studio about how wherever possible we stay in our active wear all day, and we both agree it’s because we’re more likely to go for a walk, do a Pilates class or a fifteen minute living room session if we’re already dressed to go. I also feel so much more productive and energetic when I wear fun and fabulous active wear. There are so many options now, it’s so easy to find something in any price range. I really love the range at Twenty Four Seven Lifestyle and can’t wait to get my hands on some leopard print Pilates pants. Rrreeeooowww! I highly recommend Brasilfit, the compression tights are the bomb – they pull you in and I feel teeny tiny when I wear them. Style Runner is also one of the best online stores to get all your active wear and fun trainers.
Eat Lots of Healthy Food
I love finding lots of healthy food inspiration on Instagram and Pinterest and find it so important to plan ahead when it comes to food. The days I have forgotten to eat, it’s 3pm and I’m starving and feeling light headed are the days I reach for sugary snacks. At the beginning of each week I’ll do a big grocery shop and meal plan for a few days ahead. I’ll make a big tub of fruit salad, fill our fruit bowl and have all the ingredients for a salad ready to go in the fridge and pantry. I also roughly follow the 5/2 approach from Monday to Friday, I’m quite conscious of what I eat and will fill up on the good stuff, then on the weekend I’ll allow myself a few treats.
Here are some recipes and healthy eating ideas to help get you motivated this week. You can also read how I dropped 5 kilos here.
Here’s to a happy, healthy week lovelies!
