I’ve recently started creating bento lunch boxes for my girls and I’m having SO much fun! I’ve been a long time admirer of bento boxes and was sent a gorgeous owl lunch box from Mesh My Home along with heart shaped food cups and food picks and was inspired to start creating them.
I then ordered sandwich cutters and stamps, love heart and star egg molds and super cute Babushka bento snack boxes from Little Bento World along with a Yum Box which we LOVE.
I’d often seen these beautifully created lunch boxes and thought they looked a bit time consuming and like you needed lots of ‘stuff’ to make them, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised that don’t take much time at all, plus they make the sometimes mundane task of creating lunch boxes loads of fun! I also really love that bento boxes encourage healthy eating, something I’m really passionate about.
I don’t make bento lunch boxes every day, some days are more of a ‘pop a banana and vegemite sandwich in my bag before heading out the door’ kind of day, but I really do love creating these bento lunch boxes a few times a week as a special treat for my little loves.
If you are interested in making bento lunch boxes for your little ones, boy or girl – I would highly recommend starting with a Yum Box, they are genius and make a very clever gift too!
Happy lunch making lovelies!

I’ve started doing the same for Lisey. Meals used to be such a fight but since doing bento style meals, OMG it has made such a difference! Being a working fifo mum, I’m pretty time poor but bento takes no effort at all. If anything it saves me time coz I’m using up all my bits and pieces rather than prepping a whole new lunch. I’m about to order a yum box. Miss 3 heads to kindy next year. How do you keep Ava’s lunch cold while at kindy?
The Yum Bos is brilliant because I can pop some leftover pasta with peas or little bits and bobs that I have in the fridge and Ava loves it! At kindy they put the lunch boxes in the fridge, or you could buy one of those mini cooler bricks 🙂 Have fun with your Yum Box! A x x
I recently purchased a Yum Box through Global Kidz & it’s fantastic. Eve loves the surprise & I love that it’s so super easy to pack! Left overs & tiny bits fit perfectly. I am fortunate she eats all F&V throughout the day so it’s just a great reminder to pack foods of all sorts because if it’s there they’ll eat it. Love that she eats so well, it’s a great feeling. Yum Box is like tapas for kids, who doesn’t love share picky food!! 🙂
It is like tapas for kids! I love that it gives Ava loads of variety and it’s such a sleek and beautiful lunch box. A x x x
I’ve been creating these for a while and you’re right, it’s a bit a fun and I enjoy being creative. A couple of weeks ago, I created a lunchbox for my daughter with only foods that were yellow. It was loads of fun and easier than I thought it would be! I too have jumped on the bento box bandwagon ! It’s the only way to get my Miss 3 to try new foods! She has always been such a fussy eater, but she seems to be enjoying her new lunch box treats as it always is EMPTY!!! Plus who doesn’t want such a gorgeous fun lunch like that everyday 🙂
It’s lots of fun isn’t it? I love that your Miss 3 has been encouraged to try new foods with a bento lunch box. Big happy clap for Mumma! A x x x
