Melbourne is one of my favourite cities in Australia, if not the world – so I was very excited to join my hubby on a whirlwind trip over the weekend. Even though he was working for most of the 48 hours we were there, we still managed to squeeze lots of fun stuff in.
After dropping our bags off at our hotel, we stopped for a pre-dinner drink and then headed to Coda in Flinders Lane which had been recommended by some Melbourne friends. We weren’t disappointed, Coda was amazing – the food was delicious and we chose to have a series of small dishes which were bursting with flavour. The service was impeccable and we finished off with a deliciously indulgent dessert.
We were up early for breakfast the next morning, my favourite meal of the day! I must admit that I have the same thing every time I stay, pancakes with strawberries, banana and lashings of maple syrup. They make the fluffiest, yummiest pancakes with a hint of cinnamon at the hotel we stay at and I just can’t resist them! Plus, if there’s fruit on top – that means it’s healthy right?
I generally shop in the city when I don’t have much time in Melbourne, so it was off to Zara, David Jones and Myer for me. I love the short walk from our hotel into Bourke Street, there are so many beautiful shops, pretty churches, buildings and flowers to enjoy along the way.
Would you believe that all I picked up were a few gifts and some clothes for Ava and the baby? It’s funny how sometimes when you have the time to shop til you drop – you can’t find a thing!
In the afternoon I caught up with a gorgeous friend who lives in Melbourne. Our special thing to do together is high tea, and this trip she took me to the National Gallery of Victoria – we had the best time chatting away over delicious pastries, scones, petit fours and hot tea.
My hubby finished working for the afternoon and had time for a quick dinner before heading back into the studio, so we had a quick drink together overlooking Melbourne before heading to one of our favourite restaurants, Il Solito Posto. It’s a small, rustic Italian with the most delicious comfort food and exceptional service and it never fails to deliver.
I’m still mostly wearing my normal clothes at 23 weeks pregnant, this outfit was a comfy pair of leggings, a stretchy long sleeved black top, over the knee boots from last season, my favourite leopard print scarf – and my greatest investment piece, my Burberry trench. I love it as much as I did when I first bought it!
The next morning my hubby had finally finished work for the weekend, YAY! We had a few hours to wander around Melbourne before getting our flight back home. we headed to Lygon Street which was the PERFECT destination for a pregnant lady with serious cake cravings! There were so many delicious cake shops!
We were headed to Hellenic Republic for lunch, but after a bad incident with a very obnoxious taxi driver, we were left confused and a bit lost on Lygon Street – only to discover that it stops and starts again in a different suburb. Hmmm, would have been good to know! Never mind, we had a delicious lunch at a little Italian place and then headed to the airport.
The plane trip alone was sheer bliss. I sat down and relaxed for 3 hours each way, had food, drinks, tea and Maggie Beer ice cream brought to me while I watched movies. Every busy woman’s dream!
I returned back to Perth feeling rested and recharged, and SO happy to be back with my beautiful little girl.
