For Ava’s birthday this year, I had my heart set on a ‘Garden Fairy’ party in the park, but when my hubby and I wrote our guest list – we had 20 adults and three children, so we decided to take our family out for breakfast to celebrate our little girls birthday.
I stuck with my original theme as I found these gorgeous invitations and gift tags.
I found this gorgeous bunting that went with the invitations perfectly from Made it Store Merry Go Round
We set up a party table in the restaurant. These beautiful balloons were courtesy of Gemma from GG’s Balloons and they went perfectly with our green, pink and white colour theme.

I had these lovely thank you chocolates made for Ava to give out to all of her guests, also from Illume Design.
Bowls of pretty pink roses for the tables.
I planned on making this beautiful pink layer cake for Ava’s birthday. I bought two identical non stick pans, a cake board and a large cake caddy to transport the cake. I spent my evenings in the lead up to the party researching how to assemble the perfect layer cake and even found this amazing blog which explained in detail how to build a layer cake.
On the Thursday before Ava’s party, I spent the morning baking two perfectly sized pink cakes and carefully wrapped them and popped them in the fridge ready to be cut, assembled and iced the night before the party.
The night before the party, my hubby took Ava out while I carefully assembled and iced the cake. When I went to bed it looked beautiful, ready to be decorated with fresh pale pink roses the next morning. I was SO excited that I’d managed to make my daughter a beautiful birthday cake.
Then….. this is what I woke up to:
I was heartbroken. I’d wanted to make a beautiful birthday cake for my little girl, only to have it collapse at the last minute. After a cooling off period, I thought about how I’d want Ava to see me deal with this kind of situation. I decided to shake it off, laugh about it and enjoy my beautiful girls special day.
Luckily, Corica Cakes in Northbridge opens at 8am and we were able to get this gorgeous last minute birthday cake – they even wrote on it for us! Crisis solved!
We had the most wonderful morning celebrating Ava’s 2nd birthday with our family and Ava had a wonderful time – she even made her own little speech, just like Daddy.
In the end it really didn’t matter what kind of cake we had, all that mattered was that we were all together, celebrating our beautiful little girls 2nd birthday.
Many thanks to Gemma from GG’s Balloons for kindly providing the gorgeous balloons for Ava’s birthday.
