How quickly have the school holidays flown by?
I can’t believe Ava will be starting full time school next week – a whole new world!
I’ve been thinking of interesting ideas for lunch boxes, especially now I’ll be making one every day instead of a couple of times a week.
I find it easier if I have items like boiled eggs and pasta prepped and ready to go in the fridge.
I really love Yum Boxes, they are easy for kids to open and use.
Ava has the Panino which has a compartment for a full sized sandwich and Chloe has the original Yum Box.
I also love sandwich cutters and stamps, fun food picks and egg molds which you can find at Little Bento World.
They make lunch making so much fun!
When I’m doing my grocery shop, I’ll think about what will look and taste yummy for my girls lunch boxes. I try to include something sweet, savoury, crunchy and soft. I also include a variety of colours – if a lunch box looks fun, there’s a better chance it will come home empty!
I’ll also pop some protein in – boiled eggs are my favourite as they are SO healthy, and my girls love them. Yoghurt, cheese, chicken, ham, hummus and even endamame are all great sources of protein.
Food I have on high rotation for my girls lunch boxes include:
- Sandwiches (I use Abbotts Village Rye Bread)
- Wholemeal wraps and rolls
- Cheese and crackers
- Carrot / celery sticks and dip
- Cucumber slices
- Snow Peas
- Boiled eggs
- Kiwi Fruit
- Mini Sushi (I get mine from Woolworths)
- Pasta with peas
- Frugo’s or Greek Yoghurt covered cranberries / sultanas
- Tiny Teddies
- Cherry tomatoes
I’d love to hear your ideas for creating healthy, colourful and fun lunch boxes for your little loves.
If you’d like a few tools of the lunch making trade, Little Bento World‘s shop is open Tuesdays and Friday 10am – 2pm and Saturdays 9am – 12pm. They are at Unit 1, 35 Sustainable Avenue, Bibra Lake.
And you can always shop online 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.
Good luck for the start of an exciting new school year – big kisses for all the new kindy mums and dads.
It’s an emotional day… not just for the kids!
