Colour was the theme for Ava’s birthday party this year. It seemed perfect for a little girl who is fun, colourful and very sparkly!
It was only three weeks ago we decided what to do for Ava’s birthday, so I came home one afternoon and madly ordered everything online starting with the most beautiful tassel garland from Divine Drops. LOVE!
From there I decided on treat bags from Little Red Chick, floral invitations from Minted, a beautiful custom made birthday dress from Jelly and Toto and gorgeous giant tulle covered balloons from Balloon Co. Tick tick TICK!

My beautiful bargain flowers – happy clap!
It was very special having our closest loved ones, including grandparents and great grandparents join us for Ava’s 3rd birthday.
Highlights included Ava making a little speech, thanking everyone for coming and then leading everyone in singing ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘Jolly Good Fellow’ to herself! Too funny!
Avas 3rd Birthday Party Speech
Ava’s little cousins and friends loved their home made play dough which kept our younger guests entertained while the older guests chatted. Thanks to my amazing mum Debs for coming up with that bright idea and then custom making different coloured play dough for each of our little guests.
I was also sent beautiful personalised birthday ribbon from Jo-Ann from Tied With Love ribbons which I used to wrap around the party favours. Thank you so much Jo-Ann!
My happy bargain find was a beautiful bunch of multi coloured roses that I spotted at Coles the day before the party for $10! They were even better quality than the roses I bought at my usual flower shop in Beaufort Street. Next time I’m party planning – I’ll be checking out the supermarket flowers first!
Like all birthday parties, we weren’t without our hiccups.
Ava came down sick a few days before the party which proved a little tricky squeezing in a trip to the Doctor, reshuffling appointments and postal and flower pick ups. I had three delivery attempts for the invitations a week out from the party, so when I spotted the Fed Ex van in my suburb, I followed (chased!) the driver until he pulled over, parked my car and raced up to beg for my invitations. I was very happy to get them posted out that same afternoon. The crazy things we do for our kids!
We also had another case of a collapsed cake the morning of the party.
ARRGGHHHH!! (For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you will remember that it happened last year too!).
My gorgeous sister in law Jess is an amazing cake maker. She creates beautiful cakes all the time for engagement parties, baby showers and weddings so we agreed that this year, after my spectacular cake fail last year – the cake was her baby!
Jess called me the morning of the party and said ‘Amy. You’re going to hate me’. I instantly knew what had happened.
The cake had collapsed.
My hubby and I didn’t even blink – it was Corica Cakes to the rescue for the second year in a row! Thank you Coricas!
Jess managed to save the beautiful top tier of the cake complete with hand made royal icing roses, and we had it for Avas birthday yesterday. It was delicious!
Ava ended up with two beautiful cakes for her 3rd birthday! Lucky girl!
(You can stop feeling bad now Jess – these things happen!).
Aunty Jess’s beautiful birthday cake
Ava’s gorgeous giant tulle covered balloons now have pride of place in her bedroom as a special memento of her 3rd birthday – how gorgeous do they look?
Ava insisted on giving one of her birthday balloons to her little sister, Chloe Bear. What a beautiful, thoughtful little girl.
We love you to the moon and back Ava! We hope you had the best 3rd birthday ever!
